Kids and a Mom in the Kitchen #57: Egg Salad

Time for Kids and a Mom in the Kitchen
(A weekly linky where you can share your special time in the kitchen, such a great place for learning. You can also link up Kid-Friendly Recipes)

The linky is at the bottom.

We started learning about the letter E this week, so I thought it would be cool to have the girls learn how to make Egg Salad.

First we learned how to boil eggs. They each took a turn gently putting eggs into the saucepan.

Here is how I make my hard boiled eggs.

I put the eggs into the pan and cover with cold water. Then I brought the water to a boil over high heat. I let them cook for 10 minutes. Then I drained the water and filled it with cold water. When the water was warm I drained it again and filled it with cold water once more. Once the eggs had cooled off to room temperature (about half an hour or so) I peeled them. They peeled perfectly.

I had the children tap them on the counter for me, then I peeled off the shell.

To make the egg salad I used:
11 eggs (no clue why I didn't just use a dozen)
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 Tbs yellow mustard
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/8 tsp salt

The children took turns mashing the eggs one at a time with a fork.

Then we added the other ingredients and stirred.

Egg salad sandwiches with chips and cucumber sticks for lunch!

Do you have your children help you in the kitchen?  What lessons do they learn? Do you have any kid friendly recipes to share?

I'd love to see your posts, whether you have done something this week or some time in the past. Just link up below. This is a weekly linky.
