Five on Friday (Oops I Mean Sunday): March 1, 2015

The Pebble Pond

1-   I started a new schedule for our school time and it seems to be allowing our days to run a lot more smoothly, making for a less stressful mommy. I have been using the children's Student Log Books to keep them on track. Before, we never had a set time for activities to be done. And, we still don't have a strict schedule of everything needing to be done at a certain time. However, there are a couple of check points during the day that the children have to have certain tasks done. If they get done early, they have time to play. If they aren't ready they will have less time to play on the game system, or have to go to bed earlier. This is one of the ideas I gleaned from the book Motivate Your Child by Dr. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller, RN, BSN.

2- On Monday the children worked on Rhyming Books as an extension from our Poppins Book Nook  lessons on Poetry. I would love to share pictures, but it seems I will have to add them later as I can't get pictures to load. However, you can see the girls' Rhyming Book on my Toddler Idea Tuesday post.

3- The younger children and I have been working through the alphabet 2 letters per week. Last week we worked on F and G. I have been using abctwiggles.com to print out worksheets. They also have a cute animated story for each letter that we watch the day I introduce the letter. They also made an F out of feathers, though I couldn't think of anything to make a G out of. Yes, Gold Glitter would work, but we don't have any.

4- At co-op on Wednesday the preschool class made cute monster snowmen. Each snowman had enough snowballs for each letter in the child's name and for some reason they decided to give their snowmen lots of wiggly eyes, making them "monsters."

5- I finished 2 reviews last week, and I have a few coming up this week. We reviewed the documentary called IndoctriNation: Public Schools and the Decline of Christianity in America, which I highly recommend. We have also been listening to the audio theater drama from Heirloom Audio called In Freedom's Cause. This is from the same company that gave us Under Drake's Flag, which we reviewed last year.  Coming up this week will be my reviews for Motivate Your Child, Koru Naturals, and Standard Deviants Accelerate. We have also been enjoying learning more about Jesus being the light of the world with Egglo Easter Eggs. That review will be coming up next week. Additionally, the older girls have been using Math Analogies from the Critical Thinking Company. That review is also slated to be posted this month. Yes, we've been busy, and we have more review items on the way.
